What exactly is the Aran Currach Experience?
It is a hands‑on cultural activity where visitors learn about the traditional craft of aran boat‑building and take part in a guided rowing session in the traditional Aran currach.

No—complete beginners are welcome. Our instructors will guide you through everything you need to know.

We provide buoyancy aid and all equipment needed for all activities.

The rowing is gentle and suitable for most fitness levels.
You can take breaks, and the instructor sets the pace.

No swimming is not required. Everyone must wear a lifejacket at all times.

Yes. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times during the experience.

We accept cash or card.

Yes — schools, families, corporate groups, and tours are welcome.
Please contact us for availability and group rates.

Some aspects (such as getting in and out of the currach) may be challenging.

Please contact us ahead of time, and we’ll do our best to accommodate your needs.

Yes — if you contact us at least 48 hours before your activity, we’re happy to move your booking to another available date at no extra cost. 

Rain does not affect the activities — please wear weather‑appropriate clothing and footwear.

Should a weather alert be issued, however, we may need to cancel activities for safety reasons. If this happens, we will contact you as soon as possible. You will then have the option to receive a refund or, if available, reschedule your tour for another date.

We recommend:

  • Waterproof or warm outer layers (depending on season)
  • Comfortable shoes suitable for getting slightly wet
  • A hat and sunscreen in summer
  • A rain jacket

We will provide all currach equipment needed.

A full refund is available if sailing to Inis Oírr is cancelled due to adverse sea or weather conditions.

You will receive a full refund, if you cancel more than 24 hours prior to your activity date.

No refund given if reservations are cancelled within 24 hours of date of activity.

No refund given if reservation is booked and cancelled within 24 hours of activity time.

Refunds will not be given to groups cancelling within 48 hours.

  • If a customer arrives more than 10 minutes late, we cannot guarantee participation.
  • No refunds are provided in the case of late arrival or no‑show.
